About This Service
Identify Every Termination Being Covered
An individual flue cap and a cover spanning multiple outlets protect different arrangements. Have each opening included in the estimate identified. A price for one fitting should not be read as replacement of every cap or cover visible at the chimney top.
Mention Animal or Nest Activity First
Report sounds, nesting material or a visible animal before capping an opening. An active wildlife concern requires its own assessment and consideration of applicable restrictions. Leave the area undisturbed and do not seal an animal inside while arranging ordinary cap replacement.
Know Where a Top-Mount Cover Attaches
A cover mounted across the chimney top needs its attachment surface identified. The proposal should distinguish that arrangement from a cap fitted directly to one flue. If the surface is damaged, supporting repair belongs in the decision before the new cover is installed.
Set Expectations for the Finished Appearance
A new cap may differ in color or profile from an older weathered fitting. Discuss the desired appearance before selection, while keeping product suitability first. Exact visual matching should not be promised where the old fitting is unidentified or no longer available.
Name the Features in the Selected Product
Rain protection, screening and spark-arresting functions should not be assumed from the word cap alone. Ask the proposal to identify the intended product and features. The suitable arrangement depends on the connected system and applicable requirements, not an improvised mesh choice.
