About This Service
Choose a Cap for the Actual Outlet
Chimney cap replacement begins with the outlet and attachment points, not a guess from the ground. A new chimney cap needs to fit the termination it protects while leaving the required passage unobstructed. Chimney cap installation on a masonry outlet can differ from fitting a component to a factory-built system.
A chimney rain cap, chimney screen and chimney spark arrestor describe different features or functions that may be combined in a product. We explain which features suit the installation. Spark arrestor installation should use an appropriate component; improvised mesh can interfere with the intended outlet.
Compare Materials and Coverage
A stainless steel chimney cap and a copper chimney cap offer different appearances and material choices. Selection also depends on fit, attachment and compatibility. For a multi flue chimney cap, each outlet needs appropriate clearance within the shared enclosure. The widest cover is not automatically the correct one.
Chimney cap repair may be possible when the attachment or a limited component is the issue. Distorted metal, a badly deteriorated screen or a mismatched fitting can favor replacement. The condition of the material supporting the cap matters as much as the visible lid.
Keep the Chimney Top Components Distinct
A chimney cover over the outlet does not replace the crown around it or the broad metal cover over a framed chase. Those components can fail separately. If water remains after earlier cap work, the source may require a wider inspection rather than another similar cap.
When animals are already present, deal with that situation before sealing the opening. Tell us about sounds or nesting activity when arranging the visit. Twin can then discuss the safe sequence for the problem and the chimney caps appropriate afterward.
Arrange the Cap Installation Without Roof Measurements
Contact Twin before buying a cap or attempting roof measurements. Start with the property details and a safe ground-level description. Keep any previous cap information if available, but leave the decision on fit and attachment to the assessment.
If another contractor is already working on the roof, tell us before the appointment. We can discuss how the jobs meet and avoid an assumption that access or supporting repairs have already been handled.
