About This Service
Replace the Cap That Matches the Chimney
The term cap is sometimes used for more than one part at the top of a chimney. A rain cap, a masonry crown and a metal chase cover are distinct components. Tell us what you have noticed without trying to identify the part from a product photograph; the assessment establishes what is actually present.
A suitable replacement depends on the termination and attachment arrangement. HY-C's installation guidance varies by cap style and warns against assuming one attachment method fits every product. Our proposal identifies the cap we will supply and the work required to secure it to the assessed termination.
Check the Support Before Installing a Cap
If an existing cap has come loose, the surrounding attachment area needs consideration as well. Installing another piece without understanding why the old one moved can leave the original concern unresolved. We discuss whether the immediate supporting material needs separate repair before replacement.
A damaged crown or other top component may be outside the cap installation itself. Twin explains that boundary in the estimate. You can compare a straightforward replacement with a recommendation that includes additional work, and ask which finding supports each part of the scope.
Plan Access and the Cap Replacement Visit
Provide the property information and tell us if a missing part was noticed after another roof or chimney job. Keep any existing product information or earlier estimate available. Leave measuring and roof access to the assessment rather than attempting a temporary fitting yourself.
We explain the proposed paid installation after the free inspection. The scope should distinguish removal of the old item, supply of the replacement, attachment work and any separate material repair. If a live animal or nest is involved, mention it before the appointment. That condition needs its own assessment before an opening is covered.
