About This Service
Measure the Whole Chase Top
A chimney chase cover protects the broad top of a framed enclosure. It is different from the smaller termination fitting attached to a vent. Chase cover replacement begins with the enclosure dimensions, openings and the condition of the perimeter support. A loose fit can leave the wrong areas exposed.
A custom chase cover should account for the installed penetrations and the way water drains off the top. The chimney chase cap is only part of the assembly; the vent termination and storm-collar details must remain compatible with the appliance system.
Inspect What Was Under the Old Cover
Chase cover repair may suit a limited fitting problem, but perforated or broadly corroded metal often needs a different scope. A stainless steel chase cover can be considered alongside the attachment and drainage details. Material selection alone does not repair softened support beneath it.
During chimney chase cover replacement, evidence of damaged framing or siding needs its own plan. Replacing the lid over a deteriorated enclosure can leave the next failure concealed. Twin explains when chase cap replacement should be paired with separate enclosure repairs.
Know What the New Cover Includes
Ask whether the quote covers measuring, fabrication, removal of the old metal and finishing at each opening. The chase cover should not be judged only by the dimensions visible from the yard. Access and the installed vent assembly affect how the work is performed.
Report rust stains, staining inside the enclosure or a change after wind. Do not climb to press on the cover or test its attachment. We can begin with your observations and confirm the actual dimensions during the assessment.
What Happens Between Measuring and Fitting
Custom fabrication makes the measurement stage part of the service, not a detail to leave until installation. Ask which openings, edges and attachment surfaces are included in the drawing or order. A price for a flat piece of metal does not describe the work of fitting it around an installed system.
If the original cover must be removed to assess hidden supporting material, the proposal should explain that uncertainty. Discuss how additional findings affect fabrication and scheduling before agreeing to a completion date. Retain the accepted specification with the fireplace records so later work does not rely on appearance alone.
