About This Service
Keep the Replacement Details
Keep the installed cap identification and completed scope with your chimney records. They help a later visit identify the actual part. Retain any unresolved surrounding condition too: a cap replacement receipt should not imply that the passage, roof junction or entire chimney was repaired.
Check the Single-Flue Fitting
A single-flue cap is selected for an individual outlet. The shape, exposed termination and intended fitting method matter more than a rough visual width. Ask whether the quoted product attaches to that outlet or requires a different supporting arrangement before an order is finalized.
Separate a Cap From a Damper Assembly
Some chimney-top products combine functions, while others are simply protective caps. A replacement involving an operating damper needs the connected fireplace and control arrangement considered. Do not assume that any covered outlet includes a closure or that a closure suits every system.
Describe Rain Symptoms Independently
Water visible inside the fireplace and a damaged lid may occur together without proving one complete cause. Keep both observations in the service request. A cap proposal should state what its replacement addresses and whether a separate water-entry investigation is still needed.
Report Material Around the Screen
Visible material near a screen warrants assessment of what is present and why. Do not reach into it or assume it is harmless debris; nesting activity and accumulated deposits need different handling. A replacement plan can follow once the relevant condition is understood.
