About This Service
Clarify Removal and Disposal
Removal and disposal should be explicit items in the job. A detached fitting lying on the roof may require different access from an intact cap. Describe its location safely, keep away from falling pieces and leave retrieval to the planned work.
Know Where a Top-Mount Cover Attaches
A cover mounted across the chimney top needs its attachment surface identified. The proposal should distinguish that arrangement from a cap fitted directly to one flue. If the surface is damaged, supporting repair belongs in the decision before the new cover is installed.
Identify the Available Mounting Surface
The visible outlet may not provide the same mounting surface as the product shown in an online example. Selection should follow the actual termination and relevant instructions. Ask which part will carry the attachment and whether additional component work is needed.
Describe Rain Symptoms Independently
Water visible inside the fireplace and a damaged lid may occur together without proving one complete cause. Keep both observations in the service request. A cap proposal should state what its replacement addresses and whether a separate water-entry investigation is still needed.
Report Changed Operation as a Separate Concern
If fireplace behavior changed before or after an earlier cap fitting, include that history. It does not prove the cap caused the problem, but the connected system deserves assessment. Do not keep operating a suspect fireplace to test a theory about the outlet.
