Planning a Free Inspection When You Have Two Fireplaces

Keep each fireplace and each proposed job clear when you compare the work.

By Twin Chimney ServicePublished Updated

At a glance

For two fireplaces, chimney inspection cost is easier to understand when each system has a defined scope. Twin offers a free inspection. If a Florida home has two fireplaces, explain both when booking and ask which components each recommendation covers. Any proposed cleaning, repair or additional investigation is discussed separately before you approve paid work.

Describe Both Fireplaces When Booking

Two openings can serve different appliances, use different fuels and have different maintenance histories. Tell the service team about both rather than treating the second as an incidental extra on arrival. The objective is to plan the visit around the property you actually have.

One fireplace may be working while the other has remained unused. Note those differences along with the questions you want answered. A concern about an upstairs gas unit should not disappear inside a general request about the downstairs wood-burning fireplace.

Ask Which Finding Belongs to Which System

Keep the findings distinguishable by location and appliance. A recommendation about damaged material in one firebox does not describe the condition of a second opening. Likewise, servicing one unit does not establish that every vented appliance in the property is ready for use.

If the relationship between components is uncertain, ask for that uncertainty to be explained. A shared exterior structure does not by itself tell a homeowner how the internal passages are arranged. Avoid using appearance as a substitute for assessment.

Compare Paid Work by Its Actual Scope

Our initial inspection is free. Proposed paid services should be identified separately, including which system they address. That makes it easier to distinguish a cleaning task from a component repair and to decide which recommended work to authorize.

Ask what the work includes around the failed part. Access, adjacent finishes and related work can matter to the completed result. Comparing only the names of two repairs can overlook a substantial difference in what is included.

Keep a Separate Record for Each Fireplace

After the visit, keep the relevant model information and service details together for each appliance. If one system must remain unused, make sure everyone in the household understands which one and why. Do not assume a restriction has ended because another fireplace was serviced.

Start with a chimney inspection request that describes the whole property. Twin can discuss the questions, access and next steps before you decide on any paid service.

Compare the Visit Before Comparing the Price

When asking “how much is a chimney inspection?”, define which system and question the visit covers. Twin offers a free initial visit, so the chimney inspection price is zero. Any additional fireplace inspection cost for separately agreed investigation should be explained before approval, along with proposed cleaning or repair.

For the same property, an odor at one fireplace and rain staining at another may need different investigation. Our guides to fireplace smells at a viewing and water problems before redecorating explain useful questions to bring to that visit.

Define Access for Each Fireplace

Two fireplaces can have different access arrangements even in the same house. Mention an insert, a blocked-off opening or an appliance that has not been used since the property changed hands. The visit can then be discussed around the questions and limitations of each system.

Twin’s initial inspection remains free. If a finding calls for a separate service or additional investigation, ask for that work and any associated price to be explained before approval. Do not equate a free initial visit with an unlimited investigation of concealed construction.

Use Two Records Even if You Receive One Proposal

For a multi-fireplace project, label each recommendation by room or another clear identifier. Note the concern, proposed service and any restriction separately. This makes it easier to authorize one task without accidentally assuming that another fireplace has been addressed.

If repairs are proposed, the chimney repair estimate checklist helps compare component work, access and finishing. Keep the same identifiers through booking, the written proposal and the completed-work record so future maintenance starts with an accurate history.

Before You Book

Does a free inspection include repairing both fireplaces?

Repair is separate from the free inspection. Each proposed service is explained and priced before you choose whether to proceed.

Should I mention an unused second fireplace?

Yes. Its fuel, history and the question you want answered help the service team plan the visit.

Does checking one fireplace establish that the other is usable?

No. Treat each installation and its connected components as a separate assessment unless the findings explicitly explain their relationship.
